The joint vision of husband and wife team Joseph and Diana Marks, Tarpon Springs Castle Winery, nestled in the heart of Tarpon Springs' national historical district, transports visitors to Old-World Europe, where each bottle of wine is handcrafted, from the crush to the label. Modeled after an 1820 federal building to look 97 years old and conform with the historical district's regulations, the winery's New Orleans-style, private botanical garden and courtyard, fountains, and wrought-iron gazebo take visitors back in time, but then quickly send them forward again before they have time to un-invent electricity. Trips to the homey and spacious tasting room give visitors a chance to sip wines that range from a clean, fruity blush to a dry, oaked cabernet sauvignon. The winery also features a gift shop.
Established in November of 2011, Clearwater Beach Uncorked invites established chefs, vintners, and brewers from near and far to congregate for a weekend of sun, fun, and delicious dining. The festival is always ripe for culinary adventures: in its inaugural year, the beach featured such sights as a “sand castle” made out of cake and rice-crispie-treat crumbs, a flash mob, and countless realizations that, despite popular opinion, vegetables aren’t yucky after all.
When Rosa Fiorelli and her husband crossed the pond from Sicily, they found the landscape of eastern Manatee County to be remarkably similar to their Mediterranean home—and ideal for growing grapes. In their backyard, they planted five rows of grapes alongside their humble garden, and reserved a corner of the garage for winemaking. From such modest beginnings, Rosa Fiorelli Winery expanded exponentially, going on to produce a long list of award-winning wines. Today, visitors can explore the 3,000-square-foot winery and 10-acre vineyard, getting glimpses into all the stages of winemaking, from grape cultivation to foot-squashing and fermentation.
