Dustin Ballinger knows guitars. With a degree in applied music and jazz guitar, extensive experience recording music with local musicians, and 15 years of performing under his proverbial belt, Ballinger approaches the instrument with ease and familiarity. “I have always believed that music lessons of any kind should be fun and friendly as well as challenging,” he says. He backs up his belief by leading his roster of classes with an encouraging and dedicated approach. Lessons unfold in a cozy, homey studio space complete with couches, rustic wooden accents, and windows that look out onto sparrows trained to sing the guitar parts from “Free Bird."

Signature service: Creative Arts Programs
Specializing in everything from knitting to Photoshop, Niagara Artist Studio's instructors have established a space where artists of all ages and experience levels flex their creative muscles using a variety of media. The Artistic Director has more than 25 years of personal and teaching experience in fine arts, which she puts to use in designing programs that contribute to a well-rounded education. In addition to honing artistic technique and learning facts about art history, her students develop cognitive skills, focus, tolerance, and both risk-taking and problem-solving abilities.
A government-certified educational institute, Ontario Conservatory of Music has fostered the musicians of tomorrow since 1939, when tomorrow had just been invented. Its teachers believe that playing music acts as a gateway—to building character, boosting confidence, and improving self-discipline. The school helps students of all ages explore those benefits through lessons in instruments ranging from drums and guitar to piano, voice, and violin. Band programs get even beginning students working together and performing in front of live audiences, giving them a space to hone their chops outside their basement, where mole people might hear them through the walls and steal their songs.
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
We offer a variety of camps, classes, and private lessons that engage children ages 4 and up in the ARTS. Our organization also boasts a talented team of adults and young adults that run artistic activities each day with enthusiasm and care for each participant.
What is the experience customers can expect?
Each participant is unique and encouraged to share and develop their unique talents with new and old friends. We use positive reinforcement as we rotate through a variety of artistic activities, allowing participants to have their "spotlight moment" if they so choose.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
After running a non-profit theatre organization for 7 years, I was inspired to open my own business, now in it's 4th year, to better address the artistic needs of children in the community.
What do you love most about your job?
As an educator with over 10 years experience teaching, I most love providing a positive experience for each participant, allowing them to express themselves artistically in a safe environment and grow as an independent learner.
