Though there's plenty of wine around, The Ultimate Wine Run is hardly a hoity toity affair. In 5k races across the country, participants dress up in silly costumes or their most comfortable running gear, and then race through a local vineyard. Runners of all levels are welcome, and everyone gets a glass of wine at the race's end. But that's just the beginning of the celebration. A live cover band plays during the post-race party, which has food trucks and of course, more wine.
The American Hot Shots Extreme Run puts the average 5K to shame. Held on a 10,000 acre ranch, the course stretches more than 10 miles, and it challenges racers with 24 obstacles sprinkled across muddy terrain. Luckily, conquering the rope climbs, monkey bars, and other challenges brings ample rewards. Beyond the finish line waits a celebration complete with food vendors, wine, and beer from two of California's best breweries. Live bands also play to set the mood and help drum up support for a good cause. All profits from the event go to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and Wildland Firefighter Foundation, organizations that benefit the families of firefighters killed or injured while serving.
If you ask the team at Tri-California Events what a triathlon is all about, you might hear about swimming, biking and running, but what you’ll hear the most about is how fun they are. As each racing season emerges, the team gets to work running fun races from the mud-filled MORE Obstacle Course in the spring to Scott Tinley’s Triathlon in fall, replete with on-road and off-road options. One of their most popular events is the Wildflower Triathlon, now one of the largest triathlons in the world. During this packed event many athletes camp out for the weekend to ensure a memorable experience and to make s'mores as race fuel.
It's a Run because of the 5K track, a Wine Run because of the celebratory toast at the end, and a Wicked Wine Run because those two ingredients are a recipe for mischief. Participants are encouraged to get in touch with their inner goof, dress up in wacky costumes, and run in teams with the funniest themes they can think of.
