Studio Innovations lives up to its name, and the proof is in its galleries of quirky and original portrait sessions. Whether photographing babies, high-school seniors, or genius babies graduating high school, the staff never hesitates to incorporate creative props into the high-contrast, boldly colored prints. Nowhere are the studio's ace editing skills more on display than in their pinup shoots, which capture coquettish frames of ladies amid vintage kitchen and dinner backdrops. Gals can transform their best shots into a calendar, deck of playing cards, or leather-bound portfolio.
The backdrop for pictures at AnnaMarie Photography can be customized to match the feel of any session, as can the wardrobe full of tutus, dresses, ties, and hats that photo subjects can don. The photographer captures a range of subjects both in and out of the studio: toddlers, teens, expectant mothers, recent grads, pin-ups, and wedding parties. She even snaps scenic photos of outdoor scenes, such as boats in a harbor or boats in a kiddie pool so they give a proper pout. And her pin-up photo shoots will make the subject look and feel their sexiest.
Seasoned shutterbug Joel “Gus” Archer takes pride in watching his photography students develop new skills and a visual voice as he leads a variety of classes that can benefit novice and experienced photographers alike. Beginners learn to wield their new Nikons, Canons, iPhones, or optically implanted cameras in group classes or deepen their talents in sports, underwater, or macro photography. In addition to teaching the general population, Joel has shared his expertise to train law-enforcement agencies from the International Association of Arson Investigators to the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association, as well as the Junior League of Oklahoma City. When Joel isn’t teaching, he draws from his Swedish and Cherokee heritage to inform his breadth of work and compiles tutorials such as his upcoming book, Dark Dirty Secrets of Digital Photography.
Flying Turtle Photography captures indelible images of kids and families during intimate snapfests. Photographer Melissa Gilbert brings a nuanced touch to maternity and newborn sessions, snatching honest expressions from tykes and proud parents. Flying Turtle’s 2,000-square-foot boutique studio illuminates compositions with both industry and natural light as Melissa puts her subjects at ease in front of a multitude of backgrounds. Alternatively, scenic outdoor spots set a natural backdrop for wedding photos, baby portraits, and Arbor Day publicity fliers, all of which can be printed by the studio.
Lacy Hammack made her first forays into boudoir photography while living with her Marine Corps husband in the midst of the Mojave Desert. While she was first armed only with the skills of a yearbook photographer, she taught herself the ins and outs of professional studio lighting and photo editing, moving away from what she calls her "Photoshopographer" days to perfect a lighter touch that softly airbrushes imperfections while highlighting natural beauty. Lacy's extensive experimentation with lighting and posing has blossomed into a well-honed pin-up style that she and her all-female staff practice at AdoraLee Boudior Studio's two locations.
After passing through AdoraLee's storefront lingerie store (at the Norman location only), clients are treated to extensive coaching on how to get the most from their boudoir shoot. Pre-session pointers help women choose their ensembles; during the session, music and chatter sets the air at ease while photogs guide their subjects into every pose, snapping alluring eye-level shots in the makeup room or sensual high angle shots over the studio's fluffy bed. Four additional set options—including red damask or black velvet backdrops—inspire photographers as they expertly blend studio lighting with a wide variety of poses to flatter any body type. Through high-contrast color shots and classic black-and-white prints, AdoraLee photographers strive to make every woman—whether curvy, pregnant, postpartum, or mid-werewolf transformation—into a sensual siren.
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Professional photography specializing in family, wedding, boudoir, and seniors. Edgy, artistic visions created with the use of the most updated professional photography equipment, high-powered studio lighting, sets, props, and exquisite post process techniques to enhance a client's best features.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
We are a husband/wife team with Amber focusing on the Boudoir branch of our business.
We adore every opportunity to create breathtaking art with the ultimate goal being to please our clients. We are most satisfied when a family or client leaves their session happy, confident, and very excited.
What do you love most about your job?
The most rewarding part of boudoir photography is the feeling of accomplishment when I am able to help a woman recharge her excitement about her body. No matter the size, shape, or phase of life we are in, every woman deserves the chance to be pampered, primped, and treated like a model.
What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
Tears! When a woman sees herself not in our frumpy mom sweats and ponytail, but instead with a face of makeup, hair, and posed in the perfect sexy classy way that enhances all the right places yet disguises trouble spots, it is obvious she feels great about herself and I can't help but join her.
