These days, everyone's a photographer. In fact, that's one of the main inspirations Polaroid had when unveiling their Fotobars. With people taking billions of digital photos every year, the trusted photography company came up with a new way to make them last: turning them into classic Polaroid pictures. Each Fotobar location gives you access to printers that develop pictures from social media apps, your phone, or other devices with the iconic white Polaroid border. But that's not the extent of what can be created at a Fotobar. Pictures can also be enlarged, custom-framed, mounted, or printed onto bamboo and shipped straight to your home. Each design is sleek and professional, exuding the clean Polaroid aesthetic on products that you never have to shake unless you're using them to mix cocktails in a pinch.
The mission of the California Philharmonic and its founder, renowned conductor Victor Vener, is simple:
to increase awareness and appreciation of classical music. Their method, however, is anything but traditional—instead of staging events in formal halls or black-tie stairwells, the ensemble presents their crowd-pleasing concerts at the Santa Anita Race Track and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Combining pop music, Broadway standards, and legendary symphonies, Vener creates dynamic programs that aim to catch the imagination. Along with engaging performances and tuneful collaborations, the Cal Phil also hosts family nights to encourage children’s symphonic education.
The South Coast Symphony bills itself as "the unstuffy symphony." Which isn't to say that its pro musicians have any disrespect for the classical tradition—any given season likely will be rich with mammoth orchestral works and famous operas. But the group has broad tastes, and accordingly partners with a wide range of musicians to put on evenings of Broadway show tunes, renditions of classic-rock albums, and film-score performances. Many of the concerts are designed to be welcoming to a wide audience, including kids or adults who have never listened to anything besides CDs of funny sound effects.
Everything's coming up roses at Pasadena's best theater, Pasadena Symphony Association.
