  • Beginners Edge Sports Training
Coach Mitch started Beginners Edge Sports Training in 2005 as a soccer program for kids. Now, he operates a variety of sports classes including basketball, football, golf, and karate for kids as young as 18 months. These age-appropriate programs introduce the skills of the sport gradually, challenging kids at first to gain coordination and eventually to strategize, scrimmage, and switch agents mid-season. In addition to its regular sessions, Beginners Edge Sports Training runs summer camps, sports parties, and parent's night out events.

  • My Nana's Best Tasting Salsa Challenge
Every year, more than 100 amateur and professional cooks prepare fresh salsas for My Nana's Best Tasting Salsa Challenge. Proceeds from the salsa competition and festival benefit the Arizona Hemophilia Association, which aims to enhance the quality of life for those affected by bleeding disorders and advocate for better medical care and insurance coverage. Now over 30 years old, the fest brings in more than 20,000 people annually. In addition to the salsa challenge, the Patr?n Margarita Mix-Off asks local bartenders to face off for the title of Best Margarita and a $500 cash prize. Outside of competitions, margaritas and cold beers wash down unlimited chips and salsa, and the rhythms of live bands keep crowds chewing in unison. Parents can accompany their children at the fun zone, with multiple bounce houses, interactive games, and a rock-climbing wall.

  • Sassy Golf Scottsdale
Golf visionary Nancy Collins wanted to help women learn golf fundamentals and find a network of like-minded players. To these ends, she founded the all-female league Sassy Golf. After establishing a presence in Denver, Sassy Golf has expanded to include the golf-friendly clime of the Phoenix and Scottsdale area, and participating courses include Troon North and TPC Scottsdale. Throughout the week, members convene on different courses to participate in relaxed outings. The flexible scheduling allows busy members to register for the outings, clinics, and demonstrations that do not conflict with their personal schedules or mysterious inability to be in the same place as a popular superhero. In addition to ladies-only adventures, Sassy Golf coordinates monthly 18-hole coed outings.

  • Fitness From the Ground Up
facet: Main type: Traditional locale: en_US title: Absolute Kinetix Sports Science & Biomechanics Center facet_type_id: cd280fc0-5f2b-1032-b2bb-803880a60225 html_text: When it comes to using correct form during a workout, athletes might check themselves in a mirror or get subjective advice from a trainer. Absolute Kinetix Sports Science & Biomechanics Center takes these techniques a step further. Using motion-capture technology similar to that used to develop video games, experts analyze a 3D model of each client to suss out muscle imbalances, potential injury zones, and inefficient form. With this super-specific information, they're able to advise clients on the best ways to achieve their goals, whether that's adjusting the hips before a golf swing, performing special exercises to strengthen weak muscles, or practicing gymnastics until they can recreate scenes from The Matrix. The center showcases this expertise in Fitness From the Ground Up, an easy-to-follow talk show hosted by sports kinesiologist Zig Ziegler. During each show, Ziegler works with guests to demonstrate just how unique the human body is, letting viewers watch both correct and incorrect movements as the show’s guests perform activities, such as running or swinging a golf club, with the motion-capture equipment.
