In 1988, Auntie Anne's founders Anne and Jonas Beiler purchased a Pennsylvania farmers' market stand, where they experimented with dough until they created a pretzel that seemed to strike the perfect chord with their customers. Today, at their more than 1,150 locations worldwide, the pretzel makers still hand roll the original recipe but have added to the menu with inventive options, such as the pepperoni pretzel and eight signature dipping sauces. The team constantly explores new uses for the pretzel dough, such as wrapping it around hot dogs, slicing it into bite-size nuggets, or using it to build historically accurate Austrian villages. To transform the snack into a meal, they accompany it with specialty drinks, including frozen-lemonade desserts.
When not twisting dough, Auntie Anne's team partners with the national charitable organization Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which raises funds to fight childhood cancer. They also reach out to the community through fundraising opportunities.
A brownie topped with a cookie in the shape of a cupcake. That's what makes up a brookie, the signature product of milk + brookies, which crafts each sweet treat from scratch using fresh ingredients and just the right amount of experimentation (perhaps with a sweet tooth borrowed from Frankenstein's monster). Along with the original brookie, the bakery also makes flavors such as blondie, turtle, snickerdoodle, and peanut butter, selling the rich, gooey wares at shops and festivals throughout Los Angeles.
Since 2000, the baker at Sweet Red Peach Custom Cakes & Pastries has been churning out a mélange of treats from scratch, including custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and pies, with accolades such as an appearance on the Food Network's Cupcake Wars, winning third-place in the LA Cupcake Challenge, and winners of the Food Network's Duff Till Dawn. Cake flavors include white confetti, red velvet, german chocolate, and 7-Up—a bakery specialty featuring buttery, lemon-tinged pound cake. Southern-inspired desserts include peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, and banana pudding—a menu standout made with fresh bananas, homemade custard, fresh cream, pudding extract, and vanilla wafers. The bakery also doles out cookies in varieties that include chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, and classic sugar.
