  • Foam Glow
With its black lights, neon colors, dance music, and hundreds of people frolicking through foam, the Foam Glow afterparty looks a lot like an outdoor music festival. Except, unlike at a typical music festival, the crowds of partiers had to run a 5K to get there. The Foam Glow fun run features runners in all-white clothing navigating Foam Glow zones, where they're sprayed with all-natural, nontoxic foam. Each zone sprays orange, pink, or blue foam, which glows in the dark under the course's high-intensity black lights. By the end of the race, the runners' outfits look completely tie-dyed, making them the envy of all chameleons. After they cross the finish line, participants head to the afterparty, where DJs, food, drinks, and more foam await. But it's not only about having fun: each race benefits a local children's charity.

  • Blacklight Run
The Blacklight Run is more than just a race—it's a 5-kilometer-long party. As racers speed through the nighttime course, glowing bracelets and necklaces light their way. Food-grade neon color powder fills the air, illuminating runners as they pass through special blacklight zones. At the end of the race, participants cool down at the after party, dancing the night away to the tunes of live DJs. But the Blacklight Run is about more than just having a good time; it's also for a good cause. A portion of the race proceeds are used to support childhood cancer charities.

  • Mud Factor
Mud Factor races are hardly races at all. You won't find any chip-timed competitiveness, or awards for those who finish first. Instead, when you line up with thousands of your fellow runners, you'll sprint toward a mud-filled playland where getting dirty beats winning any day. Each obstacle-filled 5K goes easy on the intimidation factor, with organizers designing courses with fun in mind. That ethos extends to race-day dress as well; participants are encouraged to run with friends and family members willing to don their most outlandish costumes or uniforms.

  • 5KRunDead
Running is a great way to stay healthy in general; it's also the only way to stay healthy if you're on the course of a 5KRunDead race. Each competitor is armed with flags, and as zombies nab them, they grow weaker. Lose all your flags and you're out of the game, while the fastest and nimblest get rewarded with prizes at the end. Zombies are rewarded with prizes, too, plus the fun of being transformed into genuinely gruesome creatures by pro makeup artists. Proceeds seek to spread good health far and wide—100% will benefit cancer and Alzheimer's research.

  • Splash Dash
Wild West Adventure Race: Participants of mainstream races often find themselves on a leisurely jog across flat, well-maintained roads—but not at the Wild West Adventure Race. Instead, they must traverse a course spanning four miles of rugged terrain dotted with impediments that challenge both endurance and strength. Races, which begin every half-hour from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., crisscross more than 10 obstacles that prompt racers to get down and dirty in trenches filled with ice-cold beer, mud, and smutty romance novels. Each participant will receive a race T-shirt, and top finishers across several age categories will be given individual and team awards. Onsite restrooms, changing rooms, and garden hoses facilitate cleanup before the Cinco de Mayo after party with barbecue, beer, and live music. Splash Dash: While runners often rely on high-tech fabrics and energy drinks to keep them cool and hydrated, the Splash Dash 5K takes a less sophisticated approach: manning the sidelines with a water-gun-toting Splash Squad. With awards for best times as well as best costume, runners can tackle the course with as much intensity or lightheartedness as they want, though all entrants must negotiate jets of water and water balloons before crossing the slip 'n' slide finish line. Meanwhile, a 1K fun-run course gives youngsters a chance to get soaked on the go without having to climb inside their parents' timing bibs.

  • Cotopaxi
Cotopaxi is an outdoor gear and apparel company, but it's actually much more than that. The natural world is the company's lifeblood, and they show their appreciation by giving back to charities and humanitarian efforts whenever possible. In fact, every piece of Cotopaxi gear is tied to a humanitarian cause in one of the poorest regions of the world. Another way Cotopaxi gives back is a bit less conventional, but quite effective in its own way. It's called the Questival, and it's unlike any other event in the world. The Cotopaxi Questival packs adventure, zaniness, and music into a 24-hour outdoor race event that benefits charity. Teams must choose from a list of quirky challenges that fall under categories such as hiking, service, camping, eating, and social media-ing; each successfully completed challenge wins cash for charity and humanitarian trips. A panel of judges that includes outdoor experts, environmental advocates, and business innovators is on hand to evaluate each team's performance and award them points based on their accomplishments.
