The menu includes entrees such as capricciosa pizza with smoked ham and fontina ($17.95), squid-ink spaghetti tossed with local calamari ($22.95), and braised Colorado lamb shank with taggiasca olives and rosemary ($28.95). The lunch option is valid between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and the dinner options are valid between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Cantinetta Luca

At Cantinetta Luca, Chef Jason Balestrieri rolls out handmade pastas, wood-oven-baked pizza, and roasted whole fish. Enhanced by seasonal, local ingredients, his family-style Italian cooking earned Cantinetta Luca a 2012 readers’ award for Best Restaurant in Carmel from Monterey County Weekly. Balestrieri also cures salumi in-house to fill his signature antipasti plates, and has a salumeria next door.

Cantinetta Luca’s interior decor mirrors the Old World-style eats. Exposed brick covers a barrel-vaulted ceiling in one room, and dark-wood rafters crisscross overhead in another. Elsewhere, modern light fixtures cast their glow across contemporary furnishings, chiseled wood, and pillars of string cheese.

    “Drink plenty o' water. The food there is naturally salty, as they have house-made Salume. Not sure if they use sea salt to flavor their foods, but probably not, as we had a major rise in blood pressure. We walked away with major headaches because of it. The Salume is quite good though. We also had pizza and pasta and they were ok. They used really good black trumpet mushrooms on the Funghi pizza, but the cheese was too over the top, not a great choice as it was oily. Then again, now that I think of it, it may be because they added bacon on the top! ha Either way, it made the pizza too oily. The Bolognese pasta was good but not great. Just know that most people will absolutely love it, I'm probably a bit more critical as I have a love affair with food. It was at least a beautifully prepared dish. The stand-out was the Meyer Lemon Panna Cotta...it was beautiful, and full of cleansing and delicious flavors, which were needed after the heavy, salty dishes that came before it. The service was good btw, very attentive.”
