Sports bars are great places to gather during big games due to their small windows and thick walls that keep out foul balls and off-course linebackers. Follow sports from a safe distance with today's Groupon: for $25, you get $50 worth of pub fare and beer at Canzaciti Roadhouse, valid at all three New York locations. Menu prices vary by location.
Brainchild of former Detroit Tiger Tim Lorito, Canzaciti Roadhouse enlists a team of waitresses to ferry savory eats, more than 200 kinds of canned beer, and 20 drafts as fans cheer over televised sports. Patrons consume complimentary, self-chewing popcorn as they peruse a menu of selections such as signature Almost Famous wings cloaked in flavors including honey mustard, teriyaki, and the red-hot Canz Wingz sauce ($8.95–$12.95 for 12). A toasted brioche roll hugs the hearty classic Canz-a-Citi sirloin burger crowned with veggies and choice of cheese ($10.95). Germany-born Spaten lager ($6 for a 16 oz. draft) can accompany the salmon fillet drizzled with Jack Daniels barbecue sauce and sprinkled with sautéed wild mushrooms ($12.95–$16.95).
Patrons dunk straws and annoying cousins in colossal cocktails such as the fruity Jungle Juice fishbowl ($30) amid the Astoria location's brick pillars and patio-inspired dining room. Each restaurant hosts weekly karaoke amid 30 to 60 HDTVs, with crooners at the Manhattan location belting ballads between walls lined with vintage hubcaps and license plates.
Adorned in their signature denim shorts, black tank tops, and Timberland boots, the Canz-a-Citi Girlz greet each Canz-a-citi Roadhouse guest. In between handfuls from endless bowls of complementary popcorn, diners can munch on wings slathered in scorching “Dirty Canz” hot sauce, burgers with one, two, or three 5.2-ounce bacon-topped patties, and fried Twinkies or Oreos. More than 200 kinds of canned beer, 20 drafts, and colossal cocktails such as sangria or jungle-juice fishbowls wash down each bite until 4 a.m., seven days a week.
Wood hues, brick walls, and a metal roof create the roadhouse atmosphere, as does decor such as license plates covering the ceiling, a beer-can-lined bar, and old hubcaps patrons can use to reflect light while tanning in the parking lot. Up to 60 TVs also broadcast UFC bouts and accompany visitors during weekly karaoke in each restaurant.
