Casa Mezcal

While reading the menu at Casa Mezcal, most of the elements probably sound familiar: refried beans, cheese, avocado, grasshoppers. Yes, grasshoppers. Instead of using the insect to teach lessons about preparing for the winter, the chefs edible applications for grasshoppers throughout their menu. Fried and crispy, the critters garnish the chapulqueso, which also comes packed with melted cheese, tomato, and basil. Edible adventures aside, Casa Mezcal engages visitors by basically doubling as a three-story cultural center showcasing the works of artists from around the world, including writers, cinematographers, and musicians. At the bar, patrons can also sip on the restaurant's namesake, mezcal, a celebrated Mexican spirit made from distilled agave nectar.
