Hotel at a Glance: Canyon Creek by Wyndham Vacation Rentals

Tucked away in the Rocky Mountains northwest of Denver, Steamboat Springs is a charming mountain hamlet and outdoor recreation hotspot in the Yampa Valley. The town sits at the base of Mount Werner, which is part of Steamboat Ski Resort. Thanks to an annual average of 349 inches of snow, the mountain attracts flocks of skiers in the winter—and once the snow melts, there are a host of hiking and mountain biking opportunities. Canyon Creek’s homey two- and three-bedroom condos—located a short walk from the chairlifts—are fully equipped with gas fireplaces, full kitchens, and in-unit washers and dryers.

  • Room with a view: Some rooms look out on Mount Werner and the Yampa Valley.
  • Warm-weather activities: fishing in nearby Burgess Creek, hiking, and mountain biking
  • Recommended mountain biking trail: Buckin’ Bronc, which features wooden and dirt berms, jumps, and drops
  • Take a dip: in the heated outdoor pool and hot tub

Steamboat Springs, Colorado: Historical Ski Town with Bubbling Hot Springs

Steamboat Springs lies amid six tree-studded peaks on the western ridge of the Continental Divide. The town is best known for its quality skiing at Steamboat Ski Resort, which is often less crowded than other Colorado slopes. In the warmer months, you can hike a half-mile to Fish Creek Falls, a 283-foot picturesque cascade powered by snowmelt. Serious hikers can continue on for six miles through alpine forests and meadows to reach Long Lake.

You can experience the “springs” part of Steamboat Springs at more than 150 bubbling locations throughout the surrounding area. Head to Strawberry Park Hot Springs located on the outskirts of town to bathe in 104-degree mineral water. After dark, clothing is optional. Back in town, you can peruse the art galleries along Lincoln Avenue or stop in one of the numerous casual eateries, pubs, and breweries for savory elk-sausage burgers and cold beers served in cozy dining rooms and on scenic outdoor patios.
