Mercer One Thirteen
Chef Michael Lachowicz lends his talents to Mercer One Thirteen with a throng of credentials, having cooked since the age of 3 and honed his craft in France, filling the menu with upscale supper-club fare. Perennial favorites, such as the black angus filet mignon, line up next to special creations of his own, including the Milan-style risotto with saffron or the Thai-spice tuna tartare. Meanwhile, the bar staff sets to work creating a wine list and craft cocktails to match the experimental eats, with concoctions including the Ruby, a blend of Belvedere Pink Grapefruit vodka, agave nectra, and Himalayan sea salt.
To complement the rich eats, the dining room itself embodies a lush, earthy charm. The spacious floor plan leaves plenty of room for elbows and conga lines between table tops, despite feeling somewhat forest-like. Deep browns run along the wooden floors and ceilings, accented with tawny leather seating and pops of grassy green from glowing mid-pillar lighting fixtures. The only stone to be found frames a double-sided fireplace that keeps the room aglow come winter.
The ample space does more than provide views of the slick décor, though. Once the hour strikes 10 p.m., the room transforms. The staffers shuffle tables aside to make way for carousing and dancing, giving even early-night crowds a few hours to revel before their party dresses transform back into footie-pajamas.
I had a burger which was delicious, but the unsung hero of the meal was the fries. Perfectly salted and crispyTom R., Yelp, 2/6/13
