Piece of Velvet

Velvet is more of a state of mind than a flavor to the bakers at Piece of Velvet. Though they still craft beautiful red velvet cakes with cream cheese frosting, every cake is a "velvet" in their eyes, from chocolate velvet cake with caramel-Bailey's icing to coconut and pineapple velvet cakes. Their dense, delectable confections come in every shape an size including cupcakes, layer cakes, and even teddy-bear-shaped cakes to console a child after they realize Smokey the Bear isn't real.

The staff uses their shop as a way to benefit the greater Brooklyn community, as well. Piece of Velvet hosts baking competitions and, based on those showdowns, sells a charity cupcake whose proceeds all go right back into the community. The bakery even has it's own superhero, the "Cake Avenger," who brings joy into the community. Customers can nominate a friend who could use some cheering up. If picked, that friend receives a surprise visit from the Cake Avenger to bring a smile to his or her face.
