Students complete the first half of the American Sailing Association certification during a two-day course mostly on the water
The freedom of the water allows sailors liberties that can't be taken on land, such as gambling on knife fights or naming a dog a swear word. Float above the law with this Groupon.
$196 for a Two-Day Basic Keelboat Sailing I Class (Up to $490 Value)
Sailing novices learn the basics of boat handling through hands-on training with experienced staff. Besides the 30-minute lecture that begins the course, students will spend nearly all their time on water. By the end of the first day, they'll have learned how to set up a sailboat and steer; by the end of the second, they'll be considered competent to sail the bay waters as crew members. This class forms the first half of the American Sailing Association certification process, which is continued in Basic Keelboat II. Students will also be sailing along the waters where the pros will cruise during the next America's Cup race, with the school also in close proximity to the race's official Village.
This Groupon is valid for classes that take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on a Tuesday and Wednesday or Thursday and Friday.
San Francisco Sailing Company
At a certain point in the evening, even nature seems to stop and admire San Francisco’s lights as they shimmer in the bay’s reflection. It’s at that moment, when the fog lifts and the wind calms, that San Francisco Sailing Company’s captains embark on their City Lights night sail, just one of their several charters and sailboat excursions. With a fleet of three boats—The Santa Maria, The Privateer, and Lady J—the captains accommodate large parties of up to 28, or gatherings as small as five. They also operate an American Sailing Association–certified sailing school where students get hands-on experience in tacking, jibing, and defending San Francisco from the ghosts of the Spanish Armada.
