Over one week of camp, budding stars from kindergarten through eighth grade learn to act, sing, and dance under the direction of pro actor Miles McMahon. They explore their creativity and performance potential through improvisational games, exercises, and rehearsal, which culminate in a performance of a comedic, pop-culture-tweaking show written especially for that week. Each actor gets an equal role, with older participants challenged by longer lines and more advanced games. Depending on gender and age group, participants may delve into zany productions such as It's All About Me: The Musical! and Not Another Movie Where Giant Robots Battle Space Monsters.
Before and after classes, students participate in supervised but less-structured fun such as ping pong, board games, and a room full of G-rated movies. Snacks are included each day, so kids just need to pack a lunch.
Theatre of the Imagination
Spurred by a drive to instill children with a love for the arts and to build their self-esteem, professional actor Miles McMahon helms an array of educational programs at Theatre of the Imagination. He and his staff of local theater lovers build on more than 2,000 successful children's theatrical productions through creative summer camps, acting and performance classes, special workshops, and birthday parties for performers in prekindergarten through ninth grade. Miles writes a completely new work for each class and camp, using the script to immerse students in a cooperative, creative environment while freeing them from the pressures of lead roles, auditions, and autographer's elbow. Staff members can also conduct Movie Star Acting birthday parties, where they shoot a short film with the birthday child as the star.
