If you're not paying attention at Royal Purple Raceway, you might miss the race. That's because the venue features a quarter-mile drag strip where racers accelerate from 0 to 300 mph in four seconds. Built in 1988, the straightaway now attracts national NHRA drag races and shares the spotlight with a newer quarter-mile dirt track. Although the raceway attracts national events, including the annual Super Chevy auto show, its owners and operators, the Angel family, hail from Texas and instinctively support and preserve the local culture.
Eagle Pointe Recreational Complex promotes athletic excellence with its terrain of tennis and racquetball courts, jogging trails, and an indoor heated lap pool. Members will enjoy unlimited access to 35 group classes per week, including yoga, Pilates, and Zumba, taught by nationally certified instructors. Feel for the eye of the tiger with an aerobic kickboxing class, punctuated by freestanding punching bags, or water a pet tiger lily during a gentle water-aerobics class for older adults. Prior to getting started, all members will receive a weight-room orientation and complimentary fitness evaluation performed by a nationally certified fitness specialist. Free strength, endurance, flexibility, and wingspan tests are also available to calibrate a starting point before setting sail into the sweaty seas.
A nationally renowned tutoring program, Sylvan Learning utilizes a personalized tutoring approach to develop students of all ages and abilities into perceptive pupils. During the initial visit, children will partake in a Sylvan Skills Assessment that reveals areas a child may need help in and serves as a base line for future progress. An erudite educator then leads four one-hour tutoring sessions tailored to young minds' particular needs, covering subjects that include math, reading, writing, and the ethics of alligator wrestling. Polymaths looking to increase their potential can use their customized tutoring sessions to prepare for future algebra tests or fine-tune study skills to get a head start on memorizing next year’s phone book. Sylvan Learning gifts proud progenitors with regular progress reports granting comprehensive summaries of their offspring's progress. All six Sylvan Learning Centers are open Monday–Saturday, with hours in the morning and afternoon to accommodate busy estival schedules.
Walk into any of BreWingZ Sports Bar and Grill's 19 locations, and you'll be faced with many decisions. First, of course, is the food: the sports bar's crisp, juicy wings come in more than 25 different sauce flavors from classic suicidal hot to orange ginger. The mozzarella cheese sticks are carved from a cheese brick, breaded, and fried to order. And then there are the salads, sandwiches, burgers, and wraps. The family-friendly restaurant even gives kids an extensive selection with six child-friendly dishes, some of which include the same signature items their parents enjoy. But once you've ordered your food, there are a few more dilemmas: Which of the plentiful beers do you choose? Which game on the many massive HD televisions do you watch? Which one is the fork, again? Luckily, the spot's easygoing atmosphere and bounty of entertainment doesn't quite necessitate speedy decision making.

At each of its 31 area locations, the YMCA of Greater Houston pursues a mission to bring health, wellness, and personal growth to communities. Zumba, ballroom dance, and Les Mills group exercise classes shake up adult workout routines, as complimentary childcare frees up parents to pursue fitness goals. Meanwhile, adult sport leagues such as basketball and racquetball result in friendly competition and hyper-literate team names inspired by obscure philosophers.
Morning, noon, or night, people find something special to eat or drink at Cork Grinders. As day breaks, cups of Katz coffee and custom-made breakfast sandwiches fill the room with their aromas to wake up anyone who walked in still sleeping. By night, the restaurant's team switches out their coffee drinks for wine and locally brewed beer and the room takes on a lounge-like vibe. Much the of the dining action surrounds the panini press, which grills tasty sandwiches such as the Nola with house-made crawfish and the Texan with bacon, cheddar, and barbecue sauce. But the room itself is a draw all on its own, too. With a drink in hand, diners ensconce themselves in cozy seating framed by distressed walls and high ceilings, often listening to musical acts play on the small stage.
