For 23 years, Splash N Dash Car Wash & Lube has washed, detailed, and fixed up vehicles from its retro, yellow service compound. Automatic tunnels lavish cars with tri-foams, clear coat, and conditioners, and rigorous detailers shine fa?ades with Blue Coral waxes before restoring cabins to pre-carpool condition with interior shampoos and upholstery treatments. Onsite mechanics flush residue and Crackerjack prizes from stagnant transmission and cooling systems, and dispatch standard, synthetic, and diesel motor oils to mediate between friction-filled components. Customers flop down on plump leather couches inside Splash N Dash's waiting lounge, where flat-screen TVs and a small convenience store distract car owners from their desire to peek at their cars in the shower.
Rustic charm meets opulent décor inside The Old Warsaw, where white tablecloths and burgundy drapes mingle with chandeliers and grand paintings, setting the scene for decadent plates of French continental cuisine honed over six decades. Dishes range from classic French fare such as escargot and chateaubriand to braised pheasant and roasted duck, all of which can be paired with any of 460 wines procured from regions such as Europe, North America, and South America. As diners sample rich seafood crepes and lobster bisque, live musicians tickle eardrums with soft melodies, special songs for birthdays and proposals, and occasional legal advice.
Magic Car Care’s troupe of auto experts outfits rides with entertainment and comfort amenities including window tints, alarm systems, and sound systems. Pulling from product lines by Kenwood and Sony, technicians enhance on-the-road entertainment by installing iPod hookups, subwoofer boxes, DVD players, and small bunk beds for live-in disc jockeys. Techs also survey vehicular innards to ensure cars run in tip-top shape, changing oil and conducting state inspections.
In an effort to provide eco-friendly transportation and deter drunk driving on the Southern Methodist University campus, a group of SMU grads decided to try something new: pedicabs. These bicycle-powered, open-air cabs only use the energy of their college-aged drivers to shuttle riders throughout the city, whether it be to and from the bars on a Friday night or through the Dallas Arts District on a romantic ride. They've even been known to take on odd jobs, sometimes taking riders apartment hunting, tricking out cabs in Just Married signs and streamers for newlyweds, or cruising past all the manholes Mr. Magoo has fallen into. Patrons may book rides or special events by calling the company’s office or flagging down one of the neon-green-shirted drivers along their regular routes.
