The ever-training stylists at Artistik Edge reveal their passion for the industry by providing the Lake Highlands community with artfully executed hair services. Following the salon's 22-year tradition, salon owner Terri Hoover—a Redken-trained color specialist—helps her stylists enhance clients’ looks with services ranging from haircuts and coloring to chemical treatments and waxing. Services take place inside a bold, open-floor salon space, flanked by thick-framed, floor-length mirrors that confirm whether or not clients' hairstyles match their shins.
Q&A with Marshell Dickens, Owner of Hair by Marshell
What inspired you to start this business?
I am passionate about building long-term relationships with my clients by showcasing my hair styling skills, great haircutting abilities, and my knowledge of hair care . . . but mostly I like being independent!
What does your salon look like?
I rent a very cozy suite at Salon By JC with a nice view outside, but it still has a private atmosphere. The . . . decor is slick and uncluttered, yet I have everything I need at my fingertips to do my job. The salon as a whole is very spacious, decorated with beautiful art and filled with comfortable [seating] in the hallways. There is open parking, lots of cool restaurants, bars, and a local grocery store for your convenience!
From nail repair to UV gels, Artistic Nails & Spa offers services and treatments that turn every finger and toe into a work of art. Acrylic, pink-and-whites, and glitter nails are a few examples of artificial sets that can ramp up nails that have been damaged or chewed by anxious winter gloves. To pamper clients, staff members also offer lavish treatments such as the luxury combo mani-pedi, which includes cooling gel, a foot mask, and a 20-minute massage. During all treatments, hands and feet receive the full attention of a technician, who dotes over each extremity with patience and polish. The nail spa bookends its service menu with skilled nail art and quick polish changes for on-the-go clients.
Twenty-five equals the number of years the Hair Elegance Nails staff has been at it. That quarter century of skill building helps them render services in a wide range of categories, from waxing and permanent makeup to men's and women's haircuts and color services. The experience also serves them well during microdermabrasions and facials, among other skincare treatments.
Each of Pro-Cuts' more than 150 locations embodies the company's casual, no-frills ethos in its own way. The salon owners cultivate an atmosphere approachable to families and menfolk while sustaining an undercurrent of elegance. The quick-snipping Pro-Cuts stylists specialize in the Pro-Cuts 15-minute haircut, followed by a 10-hour eulogy for sideburns past. While services vary by location, typical offerings include kids cuts, beard trimming, and shampoo service powered by big-name salon brands such as Biolage and American Crew.
At Drybar, a pair of scissors or hair-coloring foil is nowhere to be found. That?s because the business?s founder, Alli Webb, opened the shop strictly for blowouts after her in-home business skyrocketed. Featured extensively in the media, each of the more than 37 white-hued, airy shops revolves around a center bar where customers sit for around 45 minutes as stylists blow-dry, straighten, and curl their hair. From a menu booklet, clients select a cocktail-themed hairstyle, such as The Mai Tai, which imparts beachy waves, and The Manhattan, which streamlines locks with a sleek finish that mimics the straight lines of downtown New York and can be outfitted with a tiny doorman who hails cabs for you. The staff at Drybar also crafts updos, travels on location for an additional fee, offers high-end products and tools available for purchase, and tallies bar tabs so that customers can pay for multiple blowouts at once.
