A glowing complexion. A vivid new hair color. A set of neatly shaped eyebrows. The beauticians at La Paz Day Spa & Salon create all of these and much more at a welcoming studio highlighted by Aztec-inspired decor. Aestheticians perform nine different facials while stylists revive hair with color treatments and cuts. Inside La Paz's private treatment rooms, waxing technicians remove hair from the body, leaving skin smoother than a buttered saxophone.
While staff at Marq Salon uses styling products from brands such as Moroccanoil, Pureology, and Redken, they know good hair doesn’t come from products alone. That’s why the stylists and nail artists there keep their skills sharp with continuing education, making sure they can replicate the latest trends, unlike time travellers who only brought along sweatpants. They put those skills to use beneath shelves of Coppola keratin treatment and Redken colors. Across the salon, emery boards rasp against nails, and warm paraffin melts around fingers. Therapists warm smooth stones for massages as aromatherapy oils elicit deep inhalations. An airbrush-tanning technician dispenses the eco-friendly, organic solution by hand to create an even, all-over glow that doesn’t require drying time.
Do or Dye Tx resembles an art loft: it has high, exposed ceilings, tall windows, and furniture made of pipes and particleboard. In this creatively designed space, stylists update hairdos and aestheticians apply makeup, giving patrons fresh, hip looks.
Hair-coloring experts execute ombre with a base color, darkening the hair at the roots while very subtly lightening the hue all the way to the ends. Aestheticians nourish complexions with facials and tone skin with LED phototherapy treatments, diminishing blemishes such as age spots and grape-jelly stains. Among the salon's basic services, the beauty professionals wax body hair, design updos, and perform deep-conditioning treatments.
Satori means sudden enlightenment, and at Satori Salon that moment comes when stylists spin clients around to face the mirror and a brand new cut and color are revealed. Inside this Washington Avenue salon in the Heights, dark bamboo paneling and wooden Buddhas create a Zen-like feeling. The Satori experience isn’t just about getting a haircut; it’s about creating the perfect hair design in a lush atmosphere. The designers here are all established stylists, and many have master-level color training and experience working on photo shoots and runway shows. A great hairstyle might not lead to sudden enlightenment, but it can definitely be a great surprise during the big reveal.
Owner and artistic director Charles Moyse started his career at the original Dessange Paris salon in France, where he designed award-winning cuts and updos for international hair styling competitions. He brought his signature hair design techniques to the U.S. in 1995 and opened his own salon in 2002. His design team now coifs Houstonians at the Dessange Paris Salon on Memorial Drive in River Oaks. The salon’s interior is modern and elegant, with stark white walls mixing harmoniously with black accents and hanging lights. Along with Parisian-influenced cuts, spa treatments from full body wraps to rejuvenating facials are also offered on-site. Special occasion makeup sessions and bridal consultations are available as well.
