Rock Paper Salon’s welcoming environment and experienced hair handlers cater to both men and women looking to achieve head stylishness. The Moroccan Oil hair mask restores vibrancy, health, and is tailored to your hair’s specific needs—either hydrating or restructuring. Once hair is in prime condition, a full blowout will seal in any remaining frizzes or gravity-defying cowlicks. Men can update locks with a cleansing wash and precise trim while sipping on a complimentary beer or reading a book from the community bookshelf, which is filled with more than 150 copies of Jamie Farr's autobiography.
Iconic Pinups's skilled photographers capture gorgeous shots while unleashing customers' inner femme fatales. Before the shoot, subjects don their own outfits or borrow some from the studio's collection of vintage-style pantsless pants, then bask in full makeup and hairstyling to help them transform into midcentury pinup beauties. Brandishing eggbeaters in the vintage kitchen or donning cowboy boots before grabbing a guitar and sprawling across a bed, women of all shapes and sizes are led by the photographers through a series of provocative poses during each shoot. In addition to private sessions, the studio also hosts pinup parties, dolling up ladies for special events such as bachelorette and birthday parties.
Recently featured on the Bravo TV show Tabatha's Salon Takeover, Refuge's skilled staff and revamped quarters reflect their ship-shape shop-ops. Skilled waxologists can preen, primp, and defuzz underarms ($15), bikini lines ($30), and brow mustaches ($15), and expert face painters will apply an artistic stroke to the canvas mounted on your neck-easel with a makeup application ($60) for special events or teach basic instructions for self-application.
The Establishment Salon is an Aveda concept salon in Silver Lake, one of Los Angeles’ hippest and most youthful neighborhoods. Treatments include haircuts, coloring, waxing, makeup, eyelash tinting and assorted skin services; only Aveda products are used, of course. The glass front lets in a lot of light, hitting warm wooden accents throughout, and the front of their store stocks a wide variety of those same in-use products, which can be purchased on site for those interested in perfecting their look at home. The Establishment also offers a full service French press coffee and tea to all of their clients inside the smallish space, where only six salon stations and one spa treatment room exist.
Prior to head editing, the expert stylists at Silver Lake Studio consult with each client to determine which hairstyle best suits their face shape, hair texture, and personality. After a titivating trim (a $45 value), a style and blow-dry (a $40 value) gifts noodle nests with a new look culled from a large assortment of hair designs ranging from classic looks to hip 'dos. Guests can opt for the beautiful summer glow of crown highlights ($90) to make a seasonal cosmetic change or to bring out any vocabulary words circumscribing the head.
