  • WysePhotos.com
Wyse Photography's shot-snappers attribute their success in capturing memorable family and pet portraits to an abundance of patience and a willingness to embarrass themselves. Goofy sounds and wacky contortions are a few of the key weapons in their arsenal for commanding the attention of infants, toddlers, cats, and dogs. No sitting fee is assessed for studio sessions, and print orders are cheaper by the sheet when ordered in bulk. In addition to specialty portrait services, the image-capturing experts occasionally offer basic photography classes at the studio, on the Internet, or in the Phantom Zone.

  • kartSTART.ca
Many modern teenagers face a catch-22: their parents don?t trust them behind the wheel of a car, but they need the driving experience to become more trustworthy drivers. Russ Bond, a 30-year automotive industry vet, decided to remedy this dilemma. He started kartSTART.ca, a traveling, family-friendly go-kart program that reaches beyond the mere thrill of racing in fast gas-powered carts to also emphasize the fundamentals and physics of driving. ?What we teach here is how a vehicle works,? says Bond on his website, ??we help teenagers prepare for the daunting task of driving on today?s roads with the masses.? During full-day programs at speedways throughout Canada, future drivers can hop into a Toyota go-kart for three driving sessions and an array of safety activities and lessons. To simplify matters, the outing includes all of the equipment necessary for a safe and realistic driving experience, including helmets and built-in backseat drivers designed to second-guess every turn you make. Programs also include lunch and beverages.

  • Laura MacPhee Photography
Two forces have constantly battled for Laura MacPhee’s affection: her career as photographer and her hometown of Halifax. After studying photography in the city, Laura skipped graduation to hop on a plane to New York City, where she began sharpening her skills as an intern at the Knot. Homesick for Nova Scotia after a year and a half, she returned to Halifax and synergized those competing forces by founding Laura MacPhee Photography. Amid the region’s breathtaking terrain, Laura flashes her camera at expectant moms, families, and engaged couples. Portrait sessions also occur in her studio on the Halifax waterfront, where she also orchestrates intimate boudoir sessions. For weddings, she and a trusted second photographer shoot up to eight hours of coverage, which newlyweds can preserve with prints, hardcover books, or new wedding veils made out of negative film strips. Despite being stationed in Halifax, Laura happily travels for destination weddings; thus far, her passport has been stamped for work in Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
