A former competitive bodybuilder and self-professed fitness fiend, Kathy Babcock has trained everyone from kindergartners to grandmothers to high-school football teams. At Healing Crown 2 Toe, Kathy preaches a natural approach to aging and self-preservation. Private Pilates sessions build long, lean muscles, whereas dance and Zumba classes burn calories in an energizing, supportive group environment. Kathy also hosts a weekly segment on KUSI's "Good Morning San Diego."
The expert trainers behind No Limits Personal Training push students of all fitness levels to their personal bests with intense personal training and boot camps. During boot camps, they harness the group's energy to motivate each student to complete challenging exercises designed to help burn fat.
At ZumbaXStudio, licensed instructors and a kick-butt sound system inspire fitness enthusiasts to dance off calories. The dance is Zumba, a high-energy, latin-inspired fitness routine that burns up to 1,000 calories per session. It incorporates salsa, cha-cha, belly dance, merengue, and more. To round out weekly routines, the studio offers Zumba-yoga-fusion classes and karate.
With thousands of personal-training sessions under his belt, Jon McQueen knows what he's doing when it comes to helping his clients reach their fitness goals. Along with fellow trainer Jim Castillo, McQueen heads up Elite Conditioning, where he offers sports-performance training, small-group training, and boot-camp classes. He and his gym are best known for their one-on-one personal-training sessions tailored to each participant. Under his encouraging eye, clients build muscle, burn fat, and boost endurance in order to run a marathon or qualify for a spot on the full-contact debate team.
Fit For Life Bootcamp’s seasoned instructors replace drill-sergeant screams with encouraging mantras in their one-hour indoor classes that welcome clients of all fitness levels. During sessions, trainers round out weightlifting sessions, resistance drills, and core workouts with cardio routines such as light running and obstacle courses. They switch up class routines regularly to ensure courses are never the same from day to day, leading wild-card days that incorporate hiking, crawling, and high-stakes Uno games played with 50-pound cards. In addition to bolstering workouts with nutrition guidance, trainers work to cultivate an atmosphere of positive camaraderie designed to push campers further toward their weight-loss goals.

Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
Focusing on our clients' exercise experience is our top priority. Our goal as a business is to have the best retention rates in the industry so we create a uniquely individualized group fitness experience by utilizing the latest in fitness-tracking software. Members are able to get instant feedback on calories burned, heart rate, and exercise heart rate zone percentages. We also offer our members monthly giveaways based on contests related to their monthly exercise achievements.
Do you run your gym according to a particular exercise philosophy?
Our training philosophy is that fitness should support your lifestyle and not that your lifestyle should support your fitness. We promote an active athletic lifestyle and through our fitness-tracking system we are able to integrate outdoor athletic passions of members with their fitness regimens.
What is a typical session of your program or class like for a student?
Fun, challenging, dynamic, and rewarding
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Sand training has been around for some time. Most all professional sport franchises, Olympic training centers, and top NCAA D-1 programs have sand-training environments. We are the only facility in the US offering members a professional level sand-training studio in a health-club setting. The Sand we use is not beach sand. It is the same professional sand utilized on the pro beach volleyball tour and Olympic Games.
