A locally owned fitness destination for 30 years, Peak Health & Wellness provides patrons with three facilities as spacious and well-maintained as gyms owned by a corporate entity, but as personalized as a family business. Guests walk into any location to find large workout floors stocked with rows of cardio and strength equipment, separate group-aerobics studios, and indoor courts for playing tennis, squash, basketball, and pretend jury duty. The personable staff of certified trainers lead 40 distinct fitness programs including group classes of Insane-X, X-Fit, and spin, while onsite childcare centers watch over the little ones as parents work out. An indoor pool is host to a number of different classes, and to solve the other side of the health and wellness equation, each locale hosts various nutrition programs and seminars.
Though they have impressive resumés, the instructors at Northwest Kenpo Karate—a member of the National Association of Professional Martial Artists—don't flaunt their trophies and black belts. Their focus always remains on their students and on their own continuing education, whether they teach kickboxing, ground fighting, or kenpo karate. The school has been coaching adults and children in these arts for 13 years and continues to emphasize the strong character traits that the styles embody. Students absorb lessons in respect, discipline, and self-control in addition to those in self-defense strikes.
For children especially, the confidence and leadership skills that develop with martial-arts training can benefit lifestyles at large. The family plans at Northwest Kenpo Karate therefore encourage households to hone their techniques as a unit, building up skills for the sparring mat and the combat portion of nanny auditions.

What makes your business stand out?
We are a workout facility but instead of jogging on the boring old "dreadmill," we spice things up with a boxing-based workout, taught by real professional boxers, doing exactly what they do to train for a fight. The beauty here is you don't get hit.
What inspired you to start or run this business?
I was ranked #5 in the world as a heavyweight boxer and have traveled all over the world visiting gyms and seeing and doing different workouts. I took all this knowledge to build my dream gym and share with the people of Spokane what I've learned and my love of boxing.
What is the best reaction you?ve ever gotten from a customer?
Our best compliment is when people tell us they have started many workouts at different gyms but have never been able to stick with it, either because of intimidation or because they get bored easily or frustrated. We have many members who tell us this is the longest they have ever stuck with a facility or a workout regimen. That proves to us we are doing something right.
What?s your favorite part about your job?
An unexpected perk to all of this has definitely been the camaraderie and encouragement our members give each other?they nicknamed themselves. It surely feels like a Fitness Family.
