Inside Pilates Denver’s "movement studio"—a name adopted from its always-in-motion instructors—students draw both knowledge and inspiration from tenured masters, whether working to shed fat or unwind after a long day. Six days a week, students strengthen their cores during private, semi-private, and group-equipment classes in the Pilates studio. In the movement studio, instructors teach pupils traditional Pilates mat exercises to strengthen, tone, and elongate muscles. Meanwhile, other groups make use of a ballet barre while moving to high-octane music, or flow through sun salutations during Vinyasa and Hatha yoga classes.
In 2001, Carrie Rezabek Dorr's only venue for her Pure Barre workouts—a full-body workout that uses the ballet barre to assist clients as they perform small isometric movements and muscle-lengthening stretches—was the basement of an office building. Crowds drawn by Carrie's choreographing expertise and the infectious music of her routines necessitated expansion, however, and Pure Barre soon spread its franchises across the country, spurred by mentions in Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and Health magazines.
Pure Barre guides clients through precise isometric movements that craft lean, not bulky, muscles. The workouts use small movements to sculpt muscle, as well as lift and tighten traditional problem areas such as the thighs, abs, seat, and arms. The workout is accessible to all fitness levels, and can help new mothers to regain their desired shape without leading the daycare's piggyback carpool. Intimate classes with a limit of 25 clients to ensure personalized adjustments and tips, allowing each guest to derive the deepest possible burn from the workout's alternating strength and stretch drills.
