Originally sculpted into the soil in 1975, Red Wolf Golf Resort's 18-hole course masterfully integrates mature arbors and a multitude of pristine ponds into a difficult 7,058-yard layout. With water hazards in play on 16 holes, the course demands precise forced carries or at least six golf balls sacrificed to its cerulean waterways. True to the course's overall character, the 499-yard ninth—the course's hardest-rated hole and longest par 4—forces players to direct tee shots through a tight pipeline of towering trees before approaching a green nestled behind a vast pond and flanked by two treacherous bunkers. Clubbers can prepare for their birdie-hunting expedition with a stint at the onsite driving range, or they can makeover unsightly swings and blotchy 9-irons with lessons from director of instruction John Ankenbrandt, whose 25 years of golf experience includes substantial time under the tutelage of Masters champions Jackie Burke Jr. and Jimmy Demaret and legendary instructor David Leadbetter.
Stationed at the center of the resort's emerald acreage, a fully stocked pro shop slings golfletic merchandise from Titleist, Ping, FootJoy, Nike, and other top industry brands. Splendid views of the course fill the windows of the resort's onsite restaurant, which sates appetites with an array of savory grill fare.
