About Redhead Creamery

Alise has always followed her internal compass, and that compass pointed straight to cheese. That's why, at University of Minnesota, she created her own major focused on cheese and dairy quality. It's also why, when she moved to Vermont with her husband, they frequently vacationed at artisanal cheese plants. Today, she runs Redhead Creamery, a job she may genuinely have been born for. Read on for three FAQs about the business.

What does Redhead Creamery specialize in?

Cheese, of course. They make Ridiculously Good Cheese Curds, Lucky Linda Clothbound Cheddar, Little Lucy Brie, and North Fork Whiskey Washed Munster.

Why is it called Redhead Creamery?

Because Alise, and all three of her sisters, have red hair. The moniker is a tribute to her family—just like the firm and creamy "Lucky Linda Clothbound Cheddar," named after Alise's mom and the "Little Lucy Brie," named after her daughter.

Does the creamery make a red cheese?

Actually, yes—the "Red Temper," a honey chipotle cheddar whose spice should not be underestimated. The cheese provides the perfect heat for adding zest to chili, or turning your pet mouse into a tiny dragon.

Tour was very interesting and informative. Owner/tour guide did a great job and had a good way of involving everyone. The cheeses we tasted were very good, and they should be proud of the family business they have established. Would recommend to old and young alike.

The tour was informative, interesting and entertaining. Our group enjoyed the visit with the cheese maker. After our cheese tasting we ordered their bacon/maple syrup topped fried cheese curds--a decadent treat with a bottle of wine and a bit of dark chocolate. A day trip well worth the travel time.

We loved the tour and learning about the history of the farm. We could tell how much care this family takes of the farm. They also are very good in business and keep right up to date on all things related to agriculture. Very impressive! We learned so much. It was also wonderful to hear how their children are finding ways to be in farming or related fields, such as cheese making! The cheese is fantastic, by the way. The family is completely approachable, friendly and eager to visit with customers. We loved everything about the day!
