Staff was helpful (except for the woman supervisor/mgr who had to go to the back office to get my giftcard-no smiles, thank you or even eye contact) and store was clean

It was a positive experience - though it's a bit out of the way for regular shopping, I will go back!

The shopping cart return at the Altadena store is almost unusable because there is a big pothole in front of it and it is next to impossible to muscle a cart over it. As a result, people leave their carts randomly around the lot, blocking many parking slots. Parking is already difficult, and I have been there when probably 20 percent of the spots are occupied by abandoned shopping carts. I ordinarily shop there at least once a week, but when I'm unable to find a parking space, I leave and go to Vons or Ralphs instead ... and I'd guess that happens once a month or even more often. I have no doubt you are losing a lot of business because people are unable to park, even though there would be plenty of spaces if carts weren't in them. One solution would be to have employees collect and return the shopping carts more regularly, but just fixing that one horrible pothole would go a long way toward correcting the problem, too. I know people who have stopped going to Super King entirely because of the parking situation, and they always mention how much they hate the fact that store management seems to pay no attention to the carts left blocking so many spaces.

From Our Editors

After opening their first store in Anaheim in 1993, the grocery gurus behind Super King Markets noticed the globe-spanning diversity of their customer base. This keen insight led them to stock shelves with brands from across the world and around the corner, a policy which helped them win LA Weekly's Best Ethnic Deli Counter of 2009, Best Place to Buy Nutella of 2010, and Best Palace of Cheap Produce of 2011. Now expanded to five locations, the store still fills each outpost with fruits and vegetables, quality meats and private-label seafood, and an assortment of shells in the mixed-nut bar. Staff members behind the service deli weigh imported salamis, caviar, and cheeses for their upcoming high-school wrestling matches, and clerks in the liquor aisle dole out advice on each spirited beverages. Additionally, the Los Angeles, Altadena, and Claremont locations invite shoppers to linger longer with an expansive fresh bakery.
