It is not a typical zoo. So don't expect it to be. You are more intimate with the animals. The kids who work there are volunteers and love their job. We got a personal tour! Bring snacks and drinks. There are no venders. We REALLY enjoyed it!!!

Don't expect a huge city zoo. This is a small private collection that appears to be loved and well cared for. I liked the size with my 4 yr old. It wasn't as exhausting or overwhelming as visits to larger zoos have been. The big cats seemed happy

The zoo is small, but has a good amount of animals to keep everyone interested. My three year old especially loved the hippo and the petting zoo. I hope to go out there again once everything is green in the springtime.

The zoo is quite impressive! They have a large variety of animals to view and interact with. My husband and took our boys, 14 and 12, on a Sunday afternoon and had a wonderful time. The boys had a chance to sit inside the lemur exhibit and feed them. Michael, the owner, was very helpful and we will visit again!

Continue to work on improving your zoo. Consider larger bathrooms (with changing tables) and hand sanitizer stations especially by the petting zoo and picnic area. Looking forward to our next visit.

From Our Editors

More than 500 animals inhabit the grounds at Capital of Texas Zoo, a haven for wildlife education and a breeding ground for more than 14 endangered species. The zoo's residents include zebras, ringtail lemurs, and a rare white tiger, not to be confused with a ghost tiger. Other appearances from the animal kingdom include peacocks, kangaroos, turtles, lions, and brand-new dingo babies.

Educational animal shows highlight a specific member of the zoo, such as the Wings show, which stars eurasian eagle owl Hedwig, who has made appearances on Late Show with David Letterman and in the movie Furry Vengeance. The zoo also takes to the road with traveling animal shows that involve a cast of six exotic reptiles, mammals, and birds, which makes appearances at birthday parties, schools, or events. With lessons catered to the age of the audience, the animals teach children to respect other living things and remind adults why they can’t keep falcons as pets.
