Zero for those who plan ahead. Gave my wife a gift certificate, we chose a weekend and booked it with a confirmation. We then booked flight (note: non-refundable) and a hotel with miles (note: non-refundable). A month later Racing Experience calls and says they cancelled racing at that track for that weekend we chose with no explanation as to why. In the fine print terms and conditions, note that the certificate is not refundable, and "dates subject to change". So choose only if you can drive to the track!

My daughter and daughter-in-law wanted to try driving these cars and so I went also, not at the time really wanting to. I was wrong to think so. It was a great experience and one that I am determined to do again. Once you get there, you are signed in and provided with a racing suit and pager. After that, you are briefed with your group as to the rules and how the runs are to be conducted. (The run procedures seem quite complicated at first, but do not worry, you have ear buds while in the car and are talked through everything by a professional spotter.) Once through the briefing, you may have a short wait until your pager goes off to get your helmet and be assigned to your race car. (These cars are real NASCAR racers, probably retired.) You are assisted into the car and strapped in. Tightly. Then you are on your way. The sounds and speeds are intoxicating. The PIR track is a short tri-oval with two straightaways. You can buy experiences of various lengths of time. I purchased the shortest five minute run. It was not long enough. Buy the longest time on track that you can afford. While there, we saw people of both sexes and all ages driving these cars. They all emerged from their cars with big smiles on their faces. (Must be over 18 and have a driver's license.) Very highly recommend this.

I have done several driving experiences and am a speed nut who loves to drive. I own lots of go fast toys and tend to push limits. This is a well run experience and while I would have liked to have been able to go faster I must say that I was passing everyone else on the track which means they were all going as fast as they were willing or wanting to go. It will be fast enough for 90% of the people who go. I did a 5min and then "upgraded" for another 8min. The upgrade was worth it. Phoenix International is one of the shorter tracks they do and as a result you will not go as fast as on the bigger tracks. With that said a shorter track has sharper turns which is fun. My 5min top speed was 122mph. My 8 min top speed was 130mph. Rev limiter was set to 4,700RPM. Plan on 3 hours for this experience. Bring bottled water and a snack. I felt it was worth the money.
