Just plain AMAZING! With Glenn as our guide down the river, we ate like kings and queens each of the 6 days we spent paddling 130 miles of class ll and lll rapids in our sturdy canoes. We saw moose, coyotes, bald eagles, ospreys just to name a few. The landscape views were breathtaking and a perfect escape from normal day to day running around. You won’t be disappointed if you take one of the river trips.

Unsure on a few of the other reviews as we had a great experience. Very scenic and challenging trails and FREE. I thought Matt and the staff did an excellent job, were very friendly and helpful. Lodge is beautiful. Classic skiing is definitely the choice activity here over skate.

Track is NOT rolled or set wide enough for skate skiing. The last time we were there, there were two tracks set IN THE CENTER OF THE TRAIL! What a joke. Obviously the person grooming the trails is not a skier themselves, as they would know better. We have visited Millinocket many times just to eat at the River Driver's and to go skiing, but no more. We are done wasting gas money in hopes of a great day of skiing, just to be disappointed. The only upside to these trails is that you don't have to pay to use them. And now we have learned why, because NO REAL skier would pay to ski here. These trails have SO much potential, it's too bad they can't get their act together.

From Our Editors

The northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail lies at the foot of Mount Katahdin. Beneath the mountain's silhouette, moose graze along the shorelines, and eagles roam the skies above Baxter State Park's chromatic woods. Nearby, outdoorsmen and environmental enthusiast Matt Polstein has unveiled the area's natural beauty and abundant adventure opportunities for more than 30 years through the New England Outdoor Center.

During the early summer through fall, Polstein’s team leads whitewater-rafting adventures on the Penobscot River. The raucous waterway possesses a stretch that drops 70 feet per mile through a narrow, granite-walled canyon into Class V rapids with monikers such as Exterminator and Cribworks. Further excursions include trips on the Family Float trips appropriate for kids as young as age 4. Come winter, Polstein rents snowmobiles so guests can zoom across the area's powdery expanses, perhaps to catch a view of the Northern Lights.

In addition to the plentiful year-round activities, New England Outdoor Center encompasses dining and lodging facilities, including cabins, green-built guesthouses, and campgrounds.
