Houston Avenue Bar & Grill
Staff did not understand the Groupon offer. When the bill came, they took the $139 that I already paid for the coupon off the bill, meaning that I really did not get a deal and was now being charged more than I should be. When I inquired why I was being overcharged and why the Chicken Oscar my son and I received was not the same as the menu stated, I was told by the manager that the kitchen made a mistake. (I was chrged extra for the Shrimp Skewer that was supposed to be included, and the two pieces of chicked turned out to be a half a chicken breast cut in two). The coupon was supposed to save me 50% , but in the end, I free appetizer might be all that we received. Overall, it was a dissapointing experience and I did not feel we received the value that we were supposed to receive.
The groupon cost more than the value of the same set menu for Mother's Day for 2 by $10. Now Houston's has a 3 course meal (two of same apps, 6 instead of 9 Oz steak, same desert) for $15 PLUS a 6 Oz glass of wine!!! Brutal! Ripped off!
poor value for the cost of the coupon
Is this place a sports bar or a nice restaurant?
The Groupon I bought said the food was valued at $126.00 - about a 40% savings (without alcohol) for a Groupon worth $75. However, when the bill came to the table, it showed (with wine) about $100.00. Not really a 40% savings. And the food was nothing out of the ordinary - it was pretty much like any other restaurant. The service was good, but when I mentioned the Prix Fixe, our server seemed a little confused about what that meant. Overall, it was nothing special and I won't be eating at that restaurant again.
No value at all. Service was terrible and slow.
Was an excellent evening with superb service and food!
Include drinks in the fixed price.
Excellent food and service.
the groupon savings was not what it was cut out to be from their menu
I did not get $126 for $ 75 it worked out to be a free dessert
From Our Editors
Glowing scarlet beneath drum-like lamps, the Houston Avenue Bar & Grill dining room immediately distinguishes itself. Of course, it's not the decor that reels folks in. The chefs adhere to rigid quality standards, serving Butcher's Block Reserve Angus Steak aged 30 days for dishes such as brie topped filet mignon and 16 ounce ribeye steaks. They put as much care into sirloin sandwiches, lobster-shrimp rolls, and bison burgers—even the macaroni 'n' cheese pops with gruyere, smoked gouda-cheddar, and truffle. Chefs' contemporary take on American cuisine prizes freshness and inventiveness, echoing the crimson-washed modernity and imagination that permeates the décor.
