About New England Dogsledding
Along the border of New Hampshire and Maine, the White Mountains loom above the landscape. As some of the most unspoiled mountains left in New England, they hold plenty of picturesque secrets. However, they guard them jealously: many of the mountains' most scenic points remain inaccessible by car. That's where New England Dogsledding—owned by lifelong adventurers and animal lovers Steve and Leo—comes in.
The company's pack of Alaskan huskies undertake wintry expeditions into White Mountain National Forest and some of the area's other hard-to-reach regions. That includes Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge, where sleds often share more than 60 miles of groomed trails with moose, foxes, ermine, and beavers. This intrepid spirit, coupled with Steve and Leo's dedication to making sure each pup stays happy and healthy, has visitors traveling from far and wide—including other countries—to take a sled ride, learn how to drive a dog team, and stay overnight in the rustic Telemark Inn Wilderness Lodge.
One of New England Dogsledding's unique offerings earned it an appearance on ABC's Good Morning America. Skijoring looks a bit like waterskiing, except the sport takes place on forest trails and the skier's means of locomotion are extremely athletic sled dogs rather than a motorboat.
