From Our Editors
LaPeer Beauty was one of the first salons graced by Irene Vaksberg's eye for style after she emigrated from Russia in 1979. She left it to open Vaksberg Salon, which made its home in the 1950s-era locale of Penny's—Los Angeles's first beauty school—replete with its old-fashioned hood hairdryers and radioactive pomade. In 2007, Irene's salon journey came full circle when she sold the historic location and moved Vaksberg Salon back to her original stomping ground at LaPeer Beauty. Today, Vaksberg Salon not only gives ladies a place to wind down and doll up with cuts, color services, and conditioning treatments, it also helps raise money for local charities such as Kids With A Cause, Arthritis Foundation, People Helping Homeless, and AIDS Walk.
