About Buttermilk Bakeshop

Chef Katie Rosenhouse started working in the culinary industry at 14. She went on to compound her formal education with stints in tony restaurants, a gig as head pastry chef of David Burke restaurants, and multiple awards and honors that include winning the Food Network's Sweet Genius. Her recipes have directed readers of Food & Wine Magazine, and viewers of The Today Show and Chopped, toward edible masterpieces of their own creation.

But in the kitchens of Buttermilk Bakeshop, which boasts two Park Slope locations, Katie's not thinking about all that. She's focused only on the artistry at hand. Every single day, she and her trusty fellow bakers make every item from scratch, deftly whisking eggs, kneading dough, molding cookies, and meticulously decorating cakes for the long line that accumulates at the door. Their daily attention to detail has earned praise from the likes of CBS New York ("NYC's 5 Best Whoopie Pies") and the The Village Voice ("10 Great Handheld Foods in the City"). But the most important applause comes from Buttermilk's customers, who crave the virtuosic touch chefs lavish on warm chocolate chip cookies, raspberry linzer cookies, pastel macarons, fudge caramels, and even ice cream.

The area where we were baking was a bit small and cramped, but overall the staff was super friendly. My daughter and I had a great time and we took home a lot of goodies.

The shop was very cute and the staff extremely helpful and pleasant. The instructor was knowledgeable and took her time to explain all the steps. The class was fun and my daughter and I look forward to taking another real soon. The cupcakes and Macarons came out delicious. Just recently bought all the supplies and ingredients to bake at home.

I went for a cupcake class for my niece birthday. It was a small shop and the teaching table was in the back of the bakery. My only problem was this was a group effort. The table would sit maybe 6 people HOWEVER they had 10 people standing around throwing pre measured ingredients in a bowl. There was a 3 families, 2 bowls. Icing was pretty cool just had to watch out for elbows! By the time we tasted the vanilla cupcakes they were undercooked.... best part, recipe for chocolate cupcakes is a hit in my house!!!

Love the recipes. The chef was nice, but did not explain things well. She also could've been better at making everyone feel at easy since we were crammed.
