Calandra's Italian Market & Deli, Caldwell

Calandra's Italian Market & Deli traces its roots back to 1962, when Italian immigrants Luciano and Ortenza Calandra opened their bakery, which quickly established a reputation for baking delicious bread. When it was their time to retire, their sons, Anthony and Luciano Jr., took the reigns and expanded the business into an Italian food empire. Today, they've added two locations and the original humble bakery is now in a 50,000-foot-space, joined by a traditional Italian market and deli.

There, they serve Italian subs, paninis, and fresh pasta dishes—think breaded veal sandwiches and pasta drenched with homemade sauce and sweet Italian sausage. They also churn out their own line of olive oil, coffee, fresh pasta, and homemade pasta, which you can wash down with their wine created back home in Italy. However, two elements haven't changed: their fresh-baked bread remains as crusty as ever and their commitment to keeping the business in the family still stands.
