Might or might not go back. Wouldn't go at a crowded time. Kind of pricey

The service could have been better. I never received the piña colada which I ordered and discussed with the waitress. The vegetables that were to accompany our meat dishes, came about five minutes after our meat was already served, and the table of four next to us didn't get their rice ( which was supposed to come with the meal). I used to wait tables, and would normally understand that things happen, but there were only 6 tables in the restaurant (that I could see) and I counted three servers working so I'm not sure what went wrong.

Meat was tough. The portion was small. The sauce was too sour. I would not go there again even with a groupon. Any shanbu place in Chinatown is much better.

We also got a noodle dish which is VERY small for the price of 13.95 per dish. Could use more noodles, after all, it is a noodle dish.

Service is extremely slow. And green tea ice cream is kind of funky. But other than that I was pleasantly surprised.

From Our Editors

Continuing an age-old Japanese culinary tradition, Shabu-Ya specializes in shabu-shabu, or hot pot––a modern take on the steaming soups historically eaten by Genghis Khan and his armies. The café's sleekly modern interior is designed to evoke the colors and shapes of this signature dish, from vegetable-green couches to round hanging lights that recall bubbles in boiling broth. Meals can begin with seaweed-encircled sushi while diners decide which meats and veggies to simmer in a choice of shabu-shabu broths such as Korean kimchi and vegetarian mushroom. Kitchen specials also offer Black Angus rib eye or chili-marinated pork bulgoki to build hearty hot pots, and are flavorful ways to change up an all-mayonnaise diet.
