About James Monroe's Highland
Highland is the historical home of James Monroe, a Founding Father and the fifth president of the United States, who is best known for the Louisiana Purchase and the Monroe Doctrine. The early 19th-century home includes classical French furnishings, a Victorian wing, and a copy of Washington Crossing the Delaware, which features Monroe as a young Continental Army lieutenant.

Fabulous Lady in gift store! Relaxing outside tour of the grounds with a peeks into cottages. So much to see and read without the crowds. Enjoyed the gardens and drive up to James Monroe's estate (original house no longer exists). There are also hiking trails, which would have been Fantastic, so wear the right shoes. Don't forget your magnet at the gift store. It makes me happy every time I go to the fridge. Good Times and I'd never heard of it before Groupon!

We had a Great experience at Highland. We learned a lot about our 5th president from our amazing tour guide Anna. She was very informative and made me want to learn more about James Monroe. Thanks Groupon!

We arrived at 1100 and were the only ones there so had a private tour of the house at 1115. This is a great 1 to 1.5 hour visit where you will learn all about James Monroe the 5th president of the USA>

Not only was the tour fascinating, our guide, Roger Munsick, was terrific! Knew everything, great sense of humor, was patient with the small kids in our group--he made the whole thing worth while.
