Los Portales, Chicago Heights

The term "los portales" looks like what it means in English, but it's indicative of much more. While it literally translates to an entryway, it can also signify the the arching gates directly off of a town square, dimly glowing with the promise of a warm atmosphere and a hearty meal inside. That's what Los Portales in the Chicago Heights neighborhood strives to offer. Chefs here craft all the Mexican classics, as well as some more extravagant plates too. Beef ribs, Mexican sausage, and steak come with rice, beans, guac, and tortillas. And a butterfly-cut skirt steak comes tender and seared, topped with grilled onions and a banana pepper, and plated with a cheese enchilada and guacamole.
