You might see a few swimsuits if you're standing in line at Buena Beach Bar & Grill. Lake Michigan ripples right on the other side of Lake Shore Drive, so the cafe and grill—standing in the former Razón space—is well positioned to refuel joggers, competitive bird-watchers, and other outdoor enthusiasts as well as neighbors.

But the menu puts the typical beachside snack bar to shame. Along with coffee drinks and gluten-free pastries available throughout the day, the dinner hour brings burgers of beef or lamb, served on brioche buns and topped with fancy condiments such as roasted-garlic aioli and aged swiss. Build-your-own pizzas might present a mosaic of prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and feta. On weekends, the savory stuff is available starting at noon.
