New York Red Bulls II 2022, Montclair

As 1 of Major League Soccer's 10 charter teams, the New York Red Bulls first took to the pitch in 1996 as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars. Despite some ups and downs early on—and despite the rumored "Curse of Caricola," which was born after defender Nicola Caricola scored an own goal during a game at Giants Stadium—the Metros achieved some international success. In fact, they were the first MLS team to win a trophy outside of North America when they claimed the 2004 La Manga Cup in Spain.

In 2006, Red Bull purchased the club and renamed it, and in 2010, the 25,000-seat Red Bull Arena opened in Harrison. The team hasn't missed the playoffs and has some of the league’s best talent who have donned a MetroStars or Red Bulls uniform. That list includes the likes of legendary striker Thierry Henry, Mexican national team captain Rafa Marquez, Bradley and Shaun Wright-Phillips, Gonzalo Veron, and U.S. World Cup hero Tim Howard.
