About Beads on the Ave

Beads on the Ave combines an impressive selection of gewgaws with expert instruction from the likes of Tonia Turner, affectionately known as "The Bead Doctor." Inside the shop, Swarovski pendants, semiprecious and precious stones, and glittering pieces from local artists glimmer as light floods through them from the all-glass storefront. In the spacious back room, instructors lead up to 25 students through a range of hands-on classes, teaching them how to create stunning works of wearable art as they sip on brought-from-home libations. The teacher provides supplies appropriate for each class, though they may charge extra for specialty beads, more expensive materials, or top-secret access codes to the White House's ruby vault.

Instructor was great. The fact that we had to buy additional materials was ok. Overall nice experience

I bought 1 session for two people and brought my two grandkids. I found the person working there to be very misleading as to how much we could do with the groupon value we had. We were directed around the store but not given any details on the parameters as to not exceed the groupon value. After my grandkids worked on their bracelets for a few hours we went to check out and the same person said I owed them a substantial amount of additional money above and beyond the groupon I purchased. I questioned why she didn't guide us to let us know we were going above the allotted amount for which she was not able to answer and not willing to do anything. I even asked her to show me an example of what I would have been able to design based off of the groupon value and still she wasn't able to articulate what that groupon value would buy. My grandkids obviously wanted what they made after spending a few hours doing it so of course I had no choice but to pay the extra $50+. They were very uninformative, misleading, and rude - I would never have spent that extra money if I was given the choice/options from the start.

The instructor was not very clear in explaining the process and what was included/how it would all work. However, she was helpful when asked a question. Even after the Groupon, we still had to pay about $20 a person to make a piece - was surprised that it was that much more that what we already paid.
