The Des Moines Bicycle Collective promotes cycling as a viable, earth- and fitness-friendly way to get around the city. The nonprofit organization oversees a community workspace where, for a membership fee, cyclists get access to 12 workbenches stocked with professional bike-maintenance tools, receive advice from experts, and take advantage of discounts on classes and bike-related merchandise. What's more, the collective also seeks to better the cycling (and non-cycling) community through sales of restored bikes, charitable donations, and sponsorship of bike-share programs.
