The first person I met was the girl at the desk and she was so helpful and went above and beyond to help us. We mostly enjoyed the IMAX. What a great place.

The IMAX is a hidden gem of Des Moines which is an awesome experience. It's really too bad that it is run like a non-profit. There is no thought given to the end user, just the 25 member board who runs the place and the employees who work there. When you have a theater with an attendance of 5 for a showing, maybe you have been showing the movie WAY TOO LONG, or perhaps you have chosen show times very poorly. The times that movies are shown must have been chosen by the employees, who don't want to work late. The latest showings are at 6:15, 7:15, and 8:15, but this only happens one time per month!!! One other late night per month is available. What a waste! Seems like the do gooders that run the place think they are doing somthing wonderful for kids. The way this place is operated, if this board run a restaurant, they would open it at 10 pm and serve dinner until 2 am. People with jobs can go to the IMAX one time per month with their children, unless they want to go on weekends.
The photography is generally magnificent, but the themes of the videos seem to be environmentalistic, extolling the supposed virtues of the native Americans and putting down anything industrial every chance they get. The hours of operation are during the day, so your innocent children can be brought in and tree hugger brainwashed by your schools. You won't be there to help your child understand the bias presented to them.
To ease what little logic their consciences may have, this board does put on what they call Mixology Night - The first Friday of every month (beginning in September) is exclusively for the 21+ crowd. Grab a cocktail and enjoy live music from local bands and adult-themed science programming from 5:30 - 9:00 pm! Sounds like a crowd I'd want to stay away from! What is adult themed science programming?
This is a marvelous feature for the city that is being severely under-utilized and under the control of people with an agenda, wanting to brainwash you and your children with liberal thought.
