About Soupor Hero

SouporHero Kitchen's Marc Bynum is more than just a head chef, he's an advocate for the fight against childhood obesity and depression, as well as a three-time champion on the Food Network's Chopped. Chef Bynum is a Farmingdale native and returned back to his hometown. Chef Bynum honed his skills the old-fashioned way: learning the joy of making a delicious dinner from his mother, then working his way up the ranks in professional kitchens. His experiences in home cooking bring a traditional touch to SouporHero Kitchen's meals, with sandwiches made from ingredients such as 36-hour slow-cooked beef brisket, or breakfast bowls of egg with wholesome steel-cut oatmeal. Some other highlights from the menu:

  • Savor a sandwich: The heros here prove that SouporHero Kitchen isn't just a fun, pun-based name. Enjoy handheld meals such as the classic pastrami on rye, or the Aquaman, made with house-cured salmon and caper tapenade.

  • Fuel your body with a freshly blended smoothie made with tasty fruits and berries, healthy greens, and dashes of nutrient-packed superfoods.

  • Stay light with a gourmet salad such as the kale and quinoa in a tangy citrus vinaigrette, or a "Chopped" Chef Salad made from market greens, roasted red pepper, and chickpeas.

The food (including the smoothie)were delicious—no problem there. However, their prices are kind of high and I don't know if I'd go back without a Groupon. In addition, their hours were incorrect on their FB page, so TWICE I went there and found them closed. When they are open, it's only until 5pm, so this is more of a lunch place (and they're closed on Sundays). This was my first experience with "healthy" foods and I had several questions about ingredients I was unfamiliar with. I was put off by the counter person who was unable to answer any of my questions. He had to repeatedly go back in the kitchen to ask and a couple of times had to bring the poor chef to the front to help me. Aside from the service, everything tasted great and this is an interesting and probably valuable addition to our little Main Street Village in Farmingdale.

A menu that is as diverse as it is delicious. A small place that packs a tasty punch.
