About Lake County Fair Association

The Lake County Fairgrounds are the site of The Lake County Fair, a showcase for Midwestern traditions. Themed as "Summer's Best Fest", this year's Fair has a new look focused on Lake County businesses, it’s agricultural core, “green” living concepts and merging rural heritage with today’s suburban population. No matter if they're habitual city slickers, suburb dwellers or country folk, the 87th Annual Fair is northern Illinois’ biggest family party, celebrating the nostalgia of simpler times in rural America while also allowing visitors to experience livestock barns, 4-H displays, queen pageants, circus performers, demolition derbies, plus amusement rides and the variety of food that is now a vital part of every county fair.

Beyond those five glorious summer days, though, The Lake County Fairgrounds is also a premier destination in Northern Illinois for year-round events. With a centrally located 165-acre campus midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, the fairgrounds hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including concerts, antique shows, art fairs, mud runs and trade shows.

I was disappointed that there were not as many animals there from 4H as I remembered. I haven't been there in quite awhile, but still had fun!

Really busy at night but decent crowds in afternoon. Lots of food & rides to choose from. Kids enjoyed petting farm, pig races & banana monkey races.(which were free)

While the kids had fun, I didnt find it to be very fun. The money we saved on the entrance tickets was a drop in the bucket compared to what the rest of the day cost to eat, drink, do the carnival, do the midway games, etc. It was blazing hot out and there's no water fountains anywhere except one place in the expo building we didnt find until the end of the day, and the drinks are way overpriced. And then, there is some seating here and there, but on an overall basis we felt there was a general lack of seating in many places that needed it, and no seating with any kind of shade. Lastly, you need a wheelbarrow of cash for this event. Almost no one in the event takes a credit card. When it's $60 to get three ride wristbands, you'd think they'd take a credit card for that large of a purchase, but nope! They dont! And also, the map/brochure was totally lacking in helpful information about WHERE certain events were taking place. There was supposed to be a small animal thing at 11 AM, we went to the small animal barn but there was no such event. Parade was at 5PM. Great! A parade! But where is this parade? We were too dumb to figure it out. I just did not like this event. It wasnt my kind of thing due to all the inconveniences. Also, a lot of the carnival rides dont allow single riders and I had three kids, so this became a problem and a hassle a couple times. It just all adds up to me not feeling like I would do this event again. I'll decide next year when it comes around again.
