READ THIS BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH ANY REFRACTIVE SURGERIES FROM ANY DOCTOR.
I wish I would have NEVER gotten this surgery.
I got PRK surgery back in April of 2019. It was an absolutely horrendous healing process that lasted 3+ months. The office COMPLETELY and TOTALLY downplayed how bad it was going to be.
Until this day, I have light sensitivity. Is it terrible? No, but between the hours of about 11 am - 2 pm everyday I need sunglasses to go outside. I WILL ALSO MENTION THIS IS A VERY COMMON SIDE EFFECT FOR PEOPLE THAT DOES NOT GO AWAY.
After the surgery was completed, I noticed every week or so I would have painful episodes where my eyelid would stick to my eye and when I wake up, it rips off my eye and it takes about 20-30 mins to recover from it each time. This is called a corneal erosion and this is due to this surgery. This has never gone away. It happens in both eyes. After this happens enough, your eyelids start to swell and that becomes another issue to add on.
I've now had to spend money to see corneal specialists and eye doctors, just to get a treatment plan to make sure these corneal erosions dont come back. Even with treatment they still do. Treatments I'm on include putting thick eye ointment in your eye every night before going to bed, and wearing a mask for 10 minutes every night before bed that helps the oil glands in your eyelids. My tear ducts are also plugged.
Dr Probst said these corneal erosions would go away. HE LIED.
Dr Probst said the light sensitivity would go away. HE LIED.
And what happens when you call the office to ask for assistance? You get told to use your eye drops more often. Yeah, I guess if I screwed somebody's life up I wouldn't want them to come into the office and see them face to face either.
I had to pay 4 grand for this. If I could go back in time I wouldn't have let them PAY ME $500,000 cash and give me the surgery.
Don't underestimate dry eye and the complications that can come from this surgery. Look online, go to reddit, go to facebook. The doctors wont tell you about ANY of that. It's WAY more common than they present, or than you'd think.
What you may not think about when you are contemplating getting this surgery is what a can of worms you are potentially opening for yourself.
When I realized what had happened, I became traumatized because there is essentially nothing that can be done after you get the surgery. They have already cut your eyes. The damage is done.
All this surgery has done for me, is made my overall quality of life GO DOWN.
There's not enough evidence out there to show how the permanent flaps in your eyes become 30 years down the road after the Lasik.
It all sounds good until it happens to you. You're way better off just buying daily contacts and buying them with your HSA account.
-What is going to happen to my eyes as I age and my body is less resilient?
-Do I have to put ointment in my eyes everyday before bed and get my tear ducts plugged? YES.
-Do I have to take fish oil and eat a certain way so my eyes don't dry out too much? YES.
-Do I have to spend money on going to see other eye doctors, ointments, masks, and other treatment? YES.
-Do I have light sensitivity? YES.
-Does this take time, effort, and enjoyment out of life that could be spent in other ways? YES.
-Has my quality of life gone down? YES.
-Can I see perfectly? ...yeah.
-WAS IT WORTH IT? NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH! did I forget to say this? After everything is done, once you have the surgery they're so kind to give you a pack of free eye drops! HOW NICE!

Way better than your average “drive thru” laser eye center. The lifetime follow up care sets TLC apart from the rest.
I had PRK done and not lasik (uses the same machine but longer recovery, same result). I’m beyond pleased with the results, and the recovery wasn’t as bad as feared.
The staff at the Denver location took great care of me. Everyone was classy and professional. Highly recommended!
