About El Beso Cantina

From dessert-like pancakes to Mexican meals, there's no shortage of decadent options at the 24/7 El Beso Cantina. Check out a few of the menu options served round-the-clock.

Breakfast

  • Chicken-fajita crepe: This savory option fills a delicate crepe with spicy chicken fajita, plus sautéed mushrooms, onions, spinach, and jalapeños and tops it all with hollandaise.
  • Raspberry-cream-cheese pancakes: Four layered cream-cheese pancakes are piled high on plates, then finished with raspberries, whipped cream, and powdered sugar.
  • Beef fajita omelet: Marinated skirt steak and diced onions and jalapeños are complemented by avocado, sour cream, and monterrey jack cheese in this omelet served with pancakes or toast.

Lunch and Dinner

  • Seafood enchiladas: Gulf shrimp, lump crab meat, and scallops in a white-wine-cream sauce are rolled in a corn tortilla and served with a choice of rice and beans.
  • Chili rellenos: A fresh, fire-roasted poblano pepper is filled with ground beef or chicken tinga and corn, then lightly fried and battered before it's topped with white cheese and housemade sauce.
  • Carnitas: One of El Beso Cantina's specialties, this dish features tender, slow-roasted pork bites with tomatillo sauce, red onions, cilantro, and pico de gallo.

Gave it a try and tried to support this new restaurant that took over the iconic 59-Diner. Overpriced for little food. $38 for 1 pound of fajitas...which appeared to be less than 1/2 pound unless they are weighing the onions too. Supposed to be enough for 2 but only comes with 3 tortillas! So if both of you want a 2nd tortilla, you'd have to order extra tortillas at $2. Is this intentional? or bad oversight? Very sad. You're better off going to Pappasito's or somewhere else for better tasting fajitas and something resembling a pound! You'd be more satisfied. Their "Texas Size Burrito" falls short of the name. Berryhill's burritos are better and truly Texas size. I guess they were too humble to call it that. Food was OK...nothing extraordinary or memorable that I must return. Slow service. Decor of the place could use more attention. We sat in the back and you will notice a faux brick wall has a noticeable gap between the back wall and the brick wallpaper...very distracting. Someone was in a hurry and not paying attention; very distracting and adds to the downgrades of the decor. Was hoping for a positive experience to share but regretfully not so. Sorry, won't return...too many other great Tex-Mex places around. Owner: if you want to improve, check out your competition and at least try to deliver the same level of value, ambiance, and service. There currently is an imbalance of many things...find it and tweak. Restaurant business is tough. Wish you success.

Server was good. Chips & Salsa were good. Portions were tiny. We left hungry. What's a Mexican Restaurant with out Tamales? THEY WON'T LAST ON THE HOUSTON MARKET, UNLESS THEY MAKE CHANGES.
