Hu's Garden Chinese Restaurant, Houston

Hu's Garden Chinese Restaurant is aptly named. To the chefs there, every garden is a lush bed of plants and possibility. It shows in their vegetarian dishes, which range from eggplant in Szechuan sauce to a meat-free take on General Tso's chicken. That's not to say they aren't just as creative when they work with meat. They whip up a number of protein-centric specials, including a popular sautéed medley of sliced beef, chicken, shrimp, and veggies. They name that particular dish the Happy Family because, like real happy families, each of its disparate elements compliment one another and willingly share the remote control.
