About Five-Star Basketball

"That camp changed how I felt about basketball and my future. It was the turning point in my life." That's how Michael Jordan summed up his experience at Five-Star Basketball, the premier hoops camp founded by Howard Garfinkel and Will Klein in 1966. In addition to Jordan, the alumni list is studded with stars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and coaches such as Chuck Daly. In total, more than 500 NBA players have come to Five-Star to refine their basketball talent.

Today, Five-Star continues its tradition of elite basketball training for future college and professional basketball players. Open to boys and girls aged 8-16 (check specific location for availability), the camp's coaches teach young players the importance of possessing basketball fundamentals, being in shape, and having a strong head on their shoulders. Players have many opportunities to show off their skills, such as demonstrating a finely tuned crossover dribble during Five-Star's highly competitive pickup games.

Our 11 year old son attended this camp until we were informed about the language that was being directed at and to the boys attending. Not only did the director use this language towards the boys, but as the other kids repeated it, there was no direction to stop that kind of behavior. My husband went to speak to our son's coach, who apologized and acknowledged that this does go On during the camp. We were told that the director had previously been approached by some of the coaches and also other parents in the past, but apparently the requests were not heeded. My husband approached the director about his terrible example and squandered opportunity to show good sportsmanship, to which he responded with no apology and basically thats the way he handles things, and if we didn't like it too bad!! We did not have our son complete the camp of course, and we would certainly never recommend this camp, not for the lack of basketball skill training, but the inappropriate language used and the terrible example that the leadership displayed. Thank you for your interest in our dissatisfaction. Craig and Judy Fink

Five Star coaches and staff are the best! My son's second year doing this camp and we will definitely keep coming back.
